Where do these EventBridge prices come from?
AWS published us-east-1 list prices (AWS EventBridge pricing), pricing as of 2026-10-17.
Are AWS-service events on the default bus free?
Yes. Events from AWS services (S3, EC2, CodePipeline, etc.) on the default event bus incur no publish or rule-evaluation charge. Custom application events are billed at $1.00 per million.
Enhanced custom event bus or classic — which is cheaper?
The enhanced custom event bus (launched September 2026) bills data, not events: ingress $0.18/GB for the first 5,000 GB, $0.12 to 25,000 GB, $0.08 to 125,000 GB and $0.05 beyond; egress $0.05/GB per subscription delivery; optional evaluations (dedupe, transformation, validation) $0.15 per million; retention beyond the included 24 hours $0.08/GB-month. Each event is rounded up to 1 KB. Small events with few subscriptions usually cost less on the enhanced bus than the classic $1.00 per million 64 KB chunks; large events fanned out to many subscriptions can cost more. Model both.
How is EventBridge Pipes priced?
Pipes bills $0.40 per million events processed, independent of source (SQS, Kinesis, DynamoDB Streams) or target (Lambda, Step Functions, event bus). Source and target services bill separately.
What does Schema Discovery cost?
Schema Discovery inspects events passing through a bus and generates schemas at $0.10 per million events evaluated. Enable on dev/staging buses; disable in production once schemas are stable.
How does Archive storage work?
Archive bills $0.10 per GB of events archived plus $0.023 per GB-month of archive storage (storage is not modeled here). Replayed events re-incur standard publish rates. Set retention to avoid indefinite storage charges.
EventBridge vs SNS — when is EventBridge worth the premium?
EventBridge adds content-based routing, schema discovery, archive/replay, and cross-account sharing. For simple fan-out to known subscribers, SNS-to-SQS is often cheaper — compare with the SNS and SQS calculators.
